The short answer
A full-body DEXA scan measures your total body fat percentage, fat mass, lean mass and bone mineral content, and breaks them down by region—arms, legs and trunk, right versus left.
At Body Fat USA, your DEXA report includes:
- Body fat percentage, fat mass and lean mass
- Regional composition for each arm, each leg and the trunk
- Right-versus-left balance
- Android (midsection) and gynoid (hips and thighs) fat distribution and the A/G ratio
- Bone mineral density with T-score and Z-score
- Relative Skeletal Muscle Index (RSMI)
- Trend pages comparing each scan with your baseline and previous scan
Why it matters
Unlike BMI or a standard scale, DEXA lets you see whether weight changes are coming from fat, lean tissue or both. That is especially useful for weight-loss tracking, GLP-1 medication users, athletes, strength training, body recomposition and long-term health tracking.
One note: DEXA does not directly measure visceral fat. Some systems estimate it with software; Body Fat USA does not report an estimated visceral fat number. Why?
